Happy March! We have a lot going on this month, so let’s get started with the updates:

Makerspace – Cardboard Creations! – Sunday, March 10 1-4pm: Cardboard, cardboard everywhere! let’s use it to create! A space shuttle? Ferris wheel? Batle ship? Skateboard? Pinball machine? The only limit is your imagination. Members of the Middle School Cardboard Club will share their insights, show off past work, and help attendees with new creations. Get inspired and start building a project for the School Maker Faire! FREE tickets here (limited availability).


Robotics Open House – THIS Wednesday, March 6, 7pm – Piedmont High School Student Center: We will host our robotics open house on Wednesday night for our elementary and middle school robotics programs – FIRST LEGO League for 4th-8th graders and the more advanced FIRST Tech Challenge for 7th-8th graders. We will have example robots and projects on hand for interested families to learn more. Parents and rising 4th-8th grade students are invited.

Robotics Registration NOW OPEN! – FIRST LEGO League deadline is April 30 (Register here for 4th-8th graders). FIRST Tech Challenge deadline is March 31 (Register here for 7th-8th graders. High school students will have a separate application process). Registration fee is $250.

High School Robotics Open House – Wednesday, April 3 7pm – Piedmont High School Student Center: We will host our robotics open house for our high school robotics teams in April. Our high school FIRST Tech Challenge teams will show off their robots and discuss the application process for new members. We also plan to start a new FIRST Robotics Competition team next year to compete at the highest level of FIRST Robotics. Come learn more and see a local FRC team show off their robot and inspire us all!

LEGO Mindstorms Camp comes to Piedmont Rec: We have partnered with Piedmont Rec and TechKnowHow to bring a Mindstorms EV3 camp this summer to keep building LEGO engineering skills! Students will build an autonomous car, animatronic creature, and line-following bot. Week of June 17. Register here.

6th Annual Piedmont School Maker Faire – Call for Makers: Piedmont Makers will host the 6th annual Piedmont School Maker Faire on Sunday, April 28, 2019 11am-3pm at Beach Elementary School in collaboration with the Piedmont Arts Fund. The Piedmont School Maker Faire is a celebration of K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math (S.T.E.A.M.) education for the Piedmont community & beyond! Submit your project today to exhibit at the Faire – it can be a school project, STEAM Expo project, a performance or your own project. We particularly encourage exhibits that are interactive, highlight the process of making things or that you and/or your children took pride in making. Deadline April 7.
